Since she started dating New York Ranger Brad Richards, the team was on a 7-0 winning streak. But Munn isn’t Richards’ only good luck charm. The Canadian hockey player also owns a horseshoe given to him by a friend’s son.

“I’m superstitious, so if something means good luck and it’s given to me, I won’t just throw it in the garbage,” Richards tells ESPN Magazine.

But the horseshoe isn’t the only prized possession in Richards’ closet. He also opens up about the three watches stolen from his Dallas home. Now, he’s “starting over” with another three watches that match his suits.

We aren’t sure what kind of watches Richards fancies, but if he goes for names such as Cartier, Breitling or Rolex, we recommend a watch winder. These machines, made for automatic watches, keep your most precious timepieces wound when they’re not on your wrist. If you don’t have a watch winder for your automatic watch, you’ll spend more time waking up your watch rather than yourself in the morning.

The “Rivalry Issue,” in which Richards opens his closet doors to readers, hits newsstands today.

We were mentioned on the California Home+Design blog for the...

We were mentioned on the California Home+Design blog for the Hollywood Hills closet we designed for the owners and designers of Joe’s Jeans, Joe and Ambre Dahan.

This has been such an exciting week here at LA Closet...

This has been such an exciting week here at LA Closet Design!
Thank you to Doodle Home for including us in your latest blog post on “spectacular dwellings!”

A MODest Closet

Most women can’t afford authentic vintage clothing and jewelry. But ModCloth, a Pittsburgh-based e-commerce site, can get you pretty close. Launched in 2002 by now-husband-and-wife team Eric Koger and Susan Gregg-Koger, ModCloth carries brands such as Jeffrey Campbell and BB Dakota.

ModCloth has made a humble arrival in the online-retail industry and hasn’t been overlooked. Team Koger was featured on Inc. Magazine’s 30 Under 30: America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs list in 2009, and the company was ranked No. 2 on the magazine’s Inc. 500 list the following year.

Naturally, Susan has an eclectic collection of clothing. In a “show and tell” for the retailer’s blog, she shares her favorite pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Although the shoes are hidden in the shadows of her closet, we like that each shelf pulls out to reveal two rows. It lacks optimal light but saves a lot of space.

Susan’s jewelry display on top of her chest of drawers is simple and sweet. There’s enough room to easily access bangles and broaches, and the hooks for hanging necklaces clears any clutter—not to mention they prevent your necklaces from getting tangled!

“There are no right answers; there are no rules,” Susan says of fashion.

“Your fashion taste and your fashion sense doesn’t necessarily just have to reflect [one] aspect of your personality.”

We couldn’t agree more. Your closet is your own space; make it comfortable and unique. From her rotating closet carousel to her trendy flair, we like how Susan transformed her modest closet.

So, it wasn’t surprising when Oprah featured the style icon and dreamer on her ‘Dream Jobs’ episode in April 2010.

It has been a while since the episode aired, but we were so amazed by the intro into Lyons’ section that we felt it deserved another look. Specifically, we are still floored that she converted a whole bedroom into her walk-in closet.

“It’s like shopping every day,” she said.

We can see why! The mastermind behind J.Crew’s seasonal looks even has a fireplace and antlers mounted on the wall of her closet. (Personal touches we adore and think are what make Lyons’ closet personal and unique.)

Keeping the rest of the room open to natural light pouring through the windows, Lyons has clothes hanging from rolling racks and glass shelves holding what are probably a couple hundred pairs of shoes. Lyons mentions she color-codes her shoes, too, which we especially liked.

“Find a system that works and stick to it,” LA Closet Design CEO Lisa Adams always says.

Well, we sure wish we had the space to dedicate one whole room to our clothes and accessories like Lyons does! What makes your closet unique? Share with us your thoughts!

Now you can check out our Instagram photos even if you...

Now you can check out our Instagram photos even if you don’t have an iPhone! ‘Like’ us on Facebook and check out our Instagram album!

Let Light In: Don’t Keep Your Closet Under Wraps

For those of you who might not recognize Mary Alice Stephenson as the host of 2007 TV series America’s Most Smartest Model, she is also seen on the small screen as a fashion consultant for networks such as E! and CNN.

But the working mother also balances family life with her other duties as a contributor at Harper’s Bazaar and as the national fashion ambassador for Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Lucky for us, Time Out New York filmed an inside look at this “closet case.”

“I am an equal opportunity fashionista,” Stephenson said. “I do not care how much it costs, as long as it looks great.”

Although she has many lovely Lanvin boxes stacked on shelves in her closet, we like this approach to fashion. Among the Lanvin boxes stacked on shelves in her closet, she also has pieces from Zara, H&M, Top Shop and even Sears!

The lovely chandelier hangs above her black island with lined drawers to display her fabulous jewelry. We see various sources of light in her closet, from the windows at one end to the floor lamps and ceiling lamp at the other. Stephenson’s personal taste really comes through in the way her closet is designed—everything from textures to colors, we get a real sense of who she is and what she loves.

Check out the video and let us know what you think of Stephenson’s closet!

Take Your Closet With You

Last week, we had an exciting announcement—LA Closet Design is an official retailer of the MOVE mobile closet by Max Mirani—and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we want to tell you about this great gift idea for your on-the-go loved one.

The MOVE mobile closet looks like a hard-side luggage with spinning wheels and an extendable handle but opens up to reveal shelf-like pockets. It’s light enough to be hung from a closet rod by a sturdy hook and large enough to fit your business suit!

The MOVE also contains a bag that can be used for your shoes or laundry. We especially love how each compartment is labeled with square icons, signifying what should be packed. There are enough pockets to keep your phone charger and passport separated from your bathing suit and toiletries. You’ll never be searching for misplaced accessories again.

Need more room? Not to worry—with a quick zip, you can remove the lining and double your packing space.

The MOVE mobile closet comes with a lifetime warranty, which we also think is great for those on-the-go business people. Available in brilliant black or mineral red, this luggage alternative by Max Mirani will allow you to pack your closet for your next trip.

Check out photos below! Then, MOVE on over to our online boutique and order yours today!

Check out the MOVE mobile closet by Max Mirani—available in our...

Check out the MOVE mobile closet by Max Mirani—available in our online boutique!

Several Closet Tips for Courtney Love

The other week we came across this “Behind the Clothes” video on Stylelist featuring Courtney Love. Although she is known for her “grunge” look, Love actually has a very extensive closet. But we do have some pointers for her.

0:25 Before Love rocked out in the band Hole, she worked in a wardrobe department. This is where she learned all about vintage clothing, she says. Almost 30 years later, she still draws inspiration from antique pieces.

2:16 Love shares some of her closet with Scott Lipps. Right away, we adore her ‘90s Prada pumps but dislike their display—wooden shelves hide the shoes. Instead, we would recommend glass shelves to bring in light.

2:59 Because Love collects both modern and vintage pieces in her wardrobe, we recommend she invest less in the thick, satin hangers and more in the slim ones—such as the Slimline hangers by Real Simple.

3:15 Protect your gloves, Love! Although she’s “big on a glove,” Love’s woven basket won’t protect them from sun damage. A better solution would be to display them in a shallow drawer; this would also make the gloves easier to access.

4:27 Love’s Chloé blouse is not only “utilitarian” but also super cute! However, she wouldn’t have to dig it out of the closet if she organized by color or style.

Love, let us revamp your closet!

Did you receive new handbags or shoes to add to your closet?

Did you receive new handbags or shoes to add to your closet?

We hope you didn’t miss us in the winter issue of MAMi...

We hope you didn’t miss us in the winter issue of MAMi Magazine! But removing the hangers can cause a struggle between you and the shirt. Afraid to yank the hanger and damage the shirt, you consider unbuttoning the shirt—if only there weren’t so many buttons!

Quirky, a product manufacturer, launched a solution to your problem. The SOLO hangers are a quick and easy way to remove your shirts.

Made of polypropylene plastic, the hangers collapse into a scissor-like shape and are easy to remove from the narrowest of collars such as turtlenecks. The design even allows you to do this with one hand!

The SOLO hangers are available in packs of four for $10.99 each and have notches to hang camisoles and other pieces of clothing, too. They would make a great stocking stuffer this holiday season.

We can’t wait to get a hand on them!

The Final Closet

In September, we blogged a sneak peak, behind-the-scenes look of CEO Lisa Adam’s project in Pacific Palisades. Now that you’re in the process of putting up that last strand of garland or piece of mistletoe around your home, we’d like to share some of the final closet design.

Improvements to the client’s closet started with shelving. Lisa recommended using angled shelves to clearly display shoes—organized by color, style and brand. Also, by installing glass shelves, handbags are kept out of the dark and are easy to clean.

Lisa also opened the closet and let in light by using a mirror dresser from Horchow and a state-of-the-art vanishing TV mirror by Seura. These pieces reflect light while still looking classy. Also, by removing the stand-alone TV set the client previously had on her dresser, Lisa made more space for accented details such as photo frames and an orchid plant.

The client requested a place to relax as well. Ultimately, each person’s closet is a reflection of himself. So, it was only fitting that the client be at the center of the closet. Lisa brought in a silver tufted ottoman, large enough for the client to lounge and positioned for the client to see the Seura TV mirror.

Lisa’s tricks and tips were helpful in this closet makeover process and can be helpful throughout your holiday decorating, too. Since 2009, I’ve been fortunate enough to work as an ambassador to worldwide charity, Dress For Success, and this past weekend I helped to design and sponsor their pop-up store space in Hollywood.

In addition to getting the store up and running for the weekend, LA Closet Design was awarded the task of designing the store’s window display/art installation; which I am very proud of! Drawing inspiration from the DFS logo of a little black dress, we designed and draped a mannequin in a dress made completely out of black paper and newspaper. Then from the ceiling, we hung a series of beautifully painted red hangers tied off with ribbon. It was nothing short of a show stopper.

The weekend event went off without a hitch. With such amazing brands and designers as Joe’s Jeans and Rebecca Taylor donating merchandise; guest celebrity stylists to help shoppers score that perfect go-to outfit; our goal was to raise $10K and we succeeded in raising over $25,000! With 100% of the proceeds going to DFS-West, I want to thank any and all who came out to support, donate, and shop the event. You all are the reason it was so successful. For those of you who couldn’t make it, we look forward to helping your dress for success next year!

Pictures of the Shop for Success event!

Pictures of the Shop for Success event!

Holiday Tips and Tricks with Lisa Adams

BUDGETING BLISS

By this time, we’re sure you have begun to think about the beloved onslaught of Christmas shopping. Uncle Bob wants a toolkit, Mom wants a cashmere scarf and your oldest sister simply must have the iPhone 4S. Before generosity mode kicks into overdrive, please (for the sake of 2012) make a budget! While the tinsel sparkle and cheery holiday carols can easily tantalize you into overspending, setting a specific budget for how much you would like to spend on decorations, gifts, food, etc. will keep you grounded and practical. Now here’s the hard part of budgeting: Stick to it! If an impulse buy doesn’t fit your budget, then don’t make it part of your holiday season. When January 1st comes, you’ll be so glad you planned ahead.
