Top 10 Things Every Closet Deserves

4. Take a Load Off.
Adding a seat is a simple way to transform your closet from a get-me-outta-here room to a quiet and relaxing retreat. Explore a wide range of seating options: from a small portable-style seat, to a comfy and stylish overstuffed chair to a small built-in bench, the number of choices out there ensure that you will find something to suit your own closet and sense of style. An added bonus? These little niches provide perfect surfaces on which to try on shoes or drape rejected clothes (given that you eventually put them away, of course!). The custom-tufted bench shown here infuses the entire closet with glamour and the chandelier hanging above adds to the ultra-chic atmosphere of the room. After all—trying on clothes is tiring! A seat in your closet is what you and those tired toes have been waiting for!

3. Have a Vision.
Now you may be thinking, “Well all these ideas are great, but I just don’t have the room.” Aha! Naysayers be warned: with a bit of creativity, you can transform many otherwise unusable spaces into first-class closets. For instance, the space shown here was once an awkward attic space, the slanted ceilings and open space reminiscent of the stereotypical storage room—aka the home to all those things that should have been cleared out years ago. Yet this wise homeowner revamped the space, installing custom built-ins to optimize storage space, a skylight for natural light (a great addition to any closet) and white cabinets and ottomans (they heeded the seating advice from above!) to make her closet pristine and dignified. Think of the miscellaneous spaces you have in your home and begin envisioning the potential they may have. Your dream closet may just be closer than you think!
