Maxing Out the Closet (Decorati, July 27, 2010)
Maximizing space and storage is the biggest challenge when tackling a closet renovation project, especially in the corners.  Here are several options to consider for these tricky corners during the design process.

Corner Carousel – This chrome plated spiral clothing rack has a 360 degree turning radius and the ability to hang over forty items. I have found that clients either love or hate this corner carousel, aesthetically speaking.  If the client does not like the way the corner carousel looks, but you feel it makes functional sense for their space, simply add some sleek doors in front of it.
Shoe Carousel – Comparable to a Lazy Susan in the corner of a kitchen, this shoe carousel is a unique shoe storage solution for the closet because it rotates 360 degrees to easily access your shoes. One side stores shoes, and the other side includes a semi-transparent wall to hide and protect them.
Corner Shelves – Corner shelves are a great decorative storage solution within the closet.  Rather than leaving dead space, extend shelves to the far end and configure an “L” shaped shelf, to wrap around the corner.  These shelves can be utilized for shoes, sweaters, T-shirts or purses.  In addition to saving a lot of space, these corner shelves give the room a more rounded feel.
Corner Rods – Hanging clothing is the best utilization of space in a closet.  If you or your client likes to hang the majority of your clothes, consider adding a curved rod in the corners.  The corner rods allow you to slide clothes between two corners without having to lift off the hanger from one clothes rod to the next.
Space Corner Drawers – A recent addition to the kitchen world, this Blum Space Corner Drawer can translate very easily into corner closet drawers for undergarments, T-shirts or sweaters.  This Space Corner Drawer incorporates the state of the art Blumotion drawer glides that fully extend out and effortlessly close shut.
