Top 10 Things Every Closet Deserves
10. For the Love of Rods.
A closet is only as efficient as its rod space. If there is not enough hanging space for your favorite Tory Burch shift or Giorgio Armani suit coat, then we have a serious problem. A general rule of thumb when designing your closet is to allow at least 48 inches of rod length per person in the household. Now we know that not everyone has the luxury of designing their own closet. (Don’t we wish we could all build ours from the ground up!) But chin up! All is not lost for those with a less-than-optimal amount of hanging space. You can purchase portable hanging rods for around $40 from any neighborhood Target or a similar store. Depending on the type you choose, you can tuck them away in a camouflaged corner or spruce them up a bit to add style instead of tackiness to your chosen room.

9. Vanity Isn’t always a sin.
Sometimes you have to have priorities. And sometimes these priorities dictate that you may have to sacrifice just a bit of drawer space for an elegant and timeless vanity. This open space provides the perfect area on which you can place jewelry and perfume bottles. Especially if you choose it as a place for jewelry, we would suggest investing in a chic and compact jewelry organizer. Not only will this ensure that your vanity doesn’t because another magnet for clutter, but it also will keep you from losing one of your precious diamond studs or from the dreaded tangle of chains and pendants. Another good idea if you decide to build a vanity into your closet is to make sure it is lit. When darkness falls, you need to be able to see all your precious possessions that you have stored. We promise—adding a vanity to your closet will instantly up your femininity factor and make your living space instantly more chic.
