2010 Esquire House LA
LA Closet Design is proud to announce our participation in the 2010 Esquire Design House. Each year since 2003, Esquire has taken over a stunning living space and transformed it into a spectacular masculine space that the press has dubbed, “The Ultimate Bachelor Pad”…….a living, breathing personification of the modern man’s lifestyle. This year, the magnificent residence rests on one of L.A.’s most breathtaking properties in the Hollywood Hills. Designed by award-winning architect Trevor Abramson and Douglas Teiger, this contemporary home truly embodies the indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Features of the property include the following: 14 rooms, 6.5 baths, floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views, separate 1,500-square-foot, two-story pool house, an infinity pool and pool deck overlooking Hollywood.
Each room in the home is decorated using one of Esquire’s advertisers and curated by different leading interior designers to highlight each individual brand. It is an experimental showcase of best-of-class brands and world-renowned designers. Some of our colleagues that participated in the project include Annette English, Mark Cutler, Elaine Culotti, Denise Kuriger, Lisa DeLena and Kyle Schuneman, among others.
This beautiful and impressive environment was created for a more important purpose than simply inspiring envy among the neighbors; it will be the venue for an exciting array of red-carpet charity galas and events to benefit very worthy charity partners including City of Hope, Faster Cures, International Medical Corps, Oceana, and Oxfam. The famous hospitality of the Esquire House is enhanced by contributions from Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Corum Swiss Timepieces, ASICS, Absolut Vodka, Heineken, etc.
The opportunity to align with luxury staples such as Esquire, Ferragamo, and other renowned designers who are cutting-edge in their work and make it a priority in their businesses to give back to the community, made it an easy decision to be a part of this year’s Esquire Design House. Once on board, my vision for the master closets was to showcase every man’s wishes and desires. After all, the ultimate bachelor’s lifestyle is multi-tiered, consisting of late nights, parties, dating, and friends. The closets I designed are very important spaces in both the private and public life of a bachelor. When alone, it is a space to relax in, shop in, and feel empowered in. On social nights, it is a public place that reveals a lot about one’s personality, style and character to friends and colleagues. I also wanted to steer men away from the idea that closets have to be utilitarian spaces where one simply stores clothing. Designed functionally and aesthetically, the closet can be a place to show-off one’s most prized rooms—to relax and sip some cognac in, to putt golf balls around in, or to socialize in. As the Esquire House tagline states, I am bringing “Man at His Best” vibrantly to life.
In this year’s design house, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to align with premier luxury brand, Ferragamo. Ferragamo has been a major inspiration to me and my designs throughout the years. When designing the closet spaces, my goal was to stay true and authentic to the Ferragamo brand, making sure the quality of design, fabrication and accessories met their quality of excellence.
The closet itself was fabricated with a very dark straight-grained wood, with light striations, accented with satin nickel and cream accessories. The use of the dark wood with light accents gives a very masculine feel. I paid particular attention to the lighting in the spaces to give the closet a warm men’s designer boutique feel, which evokes the feeling of shopping everyday in your very own closet. Some other design details include the following: back-lit shoe cabinet, ‘Ferragamo’ custom pulls, a hanging tie frame, lighted hanging rods, pull-out jewelry display cases, and sweater cubbies.
On October 15th, actress Sienna Miller hosted a star-studded charity event at the Esquire Design House, to benefit International Medical Corps . Established in 1984, International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. The event hosted nearly 500 guests and was a huge success to bring awareness to the cause and to the Design House. Three of our esteemed guests were clients and Brunette, NJ Goldston, of The Blonde & the Brunette blog (http://theblondeandthebrunette.com/), and Ryan and Adam Goldston, co-founders of Athletic Propulsion Labs (http://www.athleticpropulsionlabs.com/).
